WOFAK
MDGs—HIV/AIDS, Women
About Us
Women Fighting AIDS in Kenya (WOFAK) aims to enable women and young girls to live with AIDS in a positive manner and prevent infection by giving them a voice to articulate their needs. Their broad objectives encourage women and girls to: take appropriate steps to protect themselves and others from infection; seek early treatment for opportunistic infections for themselves and their sick children; make appropriate decisions about reproductive roles after HIV/AIDS infection; and access good nutrition and engage in other activities that help prolong and improve the quality of their lives.
Our Community
WOFAK is based in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, however other branches are based in rural parts of Kenya. Our organization targets women particularly vulnerable to infection in three regions: Homa Bay (South Nyanza), Kayole (Eastlands of Nairobi), and Nairobi City Center.
Our History
WOFAK was founded as a non-governmental organization August of 1993. A group of women, the majority of whom are HIV+, joined together in an effort to address the spread of HIV/AIDS throughout their community. The organization grew to offer HIV/AIDS testing and treatment, ARVS administration and Nutrition management, home-based care programs for the infected and affected, and an orphan care and feeding program.
