The Nina Agricultural Initiative

About Us
The Nina Agricultural Initiative seeks to empower rural Kenyan women through environmentally sound, sustainable practices that afford food security and establish foundations for dependable income generation.

The Nina Agricultural Initiative promotes progressive agriculture through lessons in modern crop cultivation, hands-on tutorials, and technical assistance in order to bestow skills and knowledge to the community instead of purely financial donations. The mission of this part of the program is best summed up in the statement made by the grandmother of a Morokoshi student in the group: "We don’t want to plant in ignorance.”

The Nina Agricultural Initiative fosters financial independence through strategic project planning and income generating activities offer long-term potential.

Our Community
The women’s organization is composed of 30 members who meet on a weekly basis and are led by elected board members:

Currently membership is limited to women whose children attend Morokoshi nursery school, however expansion into the village community of Murunyu, where many other women are eager to join is future goal.

Our History
The Nina Agricultural Initiative works in conjunction with the Morokoshi Majalwea Project – a farming cooperative adjacent to the Morokoshi preschool which provides a renewable food source for the school's Learning Lishe nutritional lunch program.

Faced with the challenge of how students can maintain access to adequate nutrition when school is not in session, the community seeks sustainable solutions which will supply ingredients for home-cooked meals, as well the ability to generate an added source of family income from the sale of surplus produce.
