Nafula Foundation

MDGs—HIV/AIDS, Poverty, Education

About Us
The Nafula Foundation strives to empower orphans and cultivate an educated and empowered group of young adults who will lead Kenya out of poverty, by caring for orphans’ material existence as well as their mental and spiritual health.  The foundation also aims to create a self-sustaining community of financial strength and confront infections and diseases (HIV/AIDS and malaria) through education and prevention initiatives.

Our Community
The Nafula Foundation works in the village of Chebukwa, near the city of Bungoma, Kenya.  The village is deeply impoverished; lacking basic sanitation facilities, access to clean to clean water, electricity, housing or healthcare.  Hundreds of orphaned children live in the area, many whose parents died of malaria and HIV/AIDS.  Most children are unable to attend school due to lack of funds, which creates a hopeless cycle of poverty and despair.

Our History
In 2007, our founders established the Nafula Foundation and have since raised $5,000 to benefit the community.  The foundation has purchased dairy cows and built a church to promote nutritional and spiritual health in the community.  In addition, the foundation created several self-sustaining micro-financing programs, coordinated awareness campaigns about health care and raised money to provide orphans with free education.
