Agency for Health and Food Security

MDGs—Environmental sustainability, HIV/AIDS

About Us
The Agency for Health and Food Security (AHEFS) is an NGO registered at the Registrar General’s Department and the Department of Social Welfare in Ghana. We are also registered in Bondoukou in Cote d’Ivoire.

AHEFS runs three programs namely; Environmental Protection Program (EPP), Preventive Health Program (PHP) and Food Security Program (FSP). It is our vision to ensure the protection of the environment through the promotion of the use of sustainable energy sources, reforestation and waste management projects in EPP; to promote the prevention of epidemics through education, capacity building, seminars and research projects in PHP; and to promote food security through organic farming, participatory research, education and training in organic farming and post-harvest technology-all under the umbrella of FSP.

Our Community
Our Head Office is located at Ntonso in the Kwabre District of Ghana from where it coordinates activities within the Ashanti Region and Ghana at large. We also have branches in the Northern and Brong Ahafo regions of Ghana.

Our History
Established in May 2007, AHEFS has seen to the establishment of 1500 tree seedlings of Vaocanga Africana- a medicinal plant of Ghanaian origin largely exported for the pharmaceutical production of anesthetic drugs. Environmental sanitation education is continuously embarked upon as part of our activities. Two information centers (Bowl and Boa Wo Nua) in Ntonso and Garden City Radio in Kumasi have all been employed to facilitate health and environmental awareness, education and advocacy.

As part of our activities, 10th December- Human Rights Day- has been earmarked for the promotion of environmental rights in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire. To that effect, 2009’s Environmental Festival was celebrated at Adventist Girls Senior High School under the theme; “Responding positively to the environmental call for survival aid, a responsibility for all and a prerequisite to the entitlement to the right to a clean enabling environment”.
