Church Road Educational Centre

MDGs—HIV/AIDS, Education, Poverty

About Us
As a community-based organization, Church Road Educational (CRE) Centre is committed to helping the children who were orphaned by AIDS or come from families that are too poor to afford basic education.  We provide these children with food, clothing, and the basic education that they need to succeed.

Our Community
We work in the slums of Korokocho in Nairobi Kenya, where we believe our efforts are most needed.  The majority of the slum population of roughly 1.5 million people survive on less than a dollar a day and suffer from crime and high unemployment rates.  HIV/AIDS affect nearly seventy percent of the population, and few families can afford to send their children to school.

Our History
Our founder Maurice Otieno Nyangun created the CRE Centre in 1998.  Since then, our staff has grown to eighteen committed individuals and our services have expanded to reach about 700 people currently.  In the near future, we hope to develop our fundraising program and partner with other local organizations to reach out to even more children.
