MDGs—Poverty, Health, Women, Education

About Us
Our mission is to promote holistic human transformation, human dignity and integrated development programs that focus on women & children. Program areas include health and community development programs.  The health programs include a 24-hour clinic and resource center in Gulu.  A hospital is also under construction in Gulu at the present time.  Our community development programs include educational programming about sustainable livelihoods, religious education, and life skills training.

Our Community
Gulu is a rural, post-conflict region in Northern Uganda.  It has been four years since the end of the war, and the residents are now attempting to return to a life of normalcy.  This includes returning to school, learning how to provide income for their families, and becoming educated about the health issues affecting the region.  The Gulu region is comprised of several ethnic groups.  Children in the community were abducted to fight in the war as child soldiers. Today many are facing HIV/AIDS, mental health issues, health ailments, and lack of education.  The women in the region suffered through war atrocities.  They are widowed and many are now HIV positive as a result of rape during the war, they lack education, income generation skills, and the knowledge to thrive independently.

Our History
A recognized NGO, Childcare Development Organization was founded in 2001 and has grown to support five paid staff members.  Our services reach about four hundred people currently, but we hope to expand to aid many more.
