MDGs—Education
About Us
We believe that when education is available to the children in our community, they will be able to acquire the practical skills necessary to make them self-reliant in the future. By educating the children, our community will develop socially, economically, academically, and politically. Through these changes, we hope to empower the new generations and change the lifestyles of the people in our community.
Our Community
Mugerwa is in the Kabanyoro region, east of Kampala, Uganda. The township is one of the poorest regions in the country, with very high AIDS rates. There are issues of high teen pregnancy, crime, and student drop out.
The Ugandan government brought in universal education, but still there are little finances for teachers and desks (and actual follow through) from government. Government schools are so low that it is important that community based schools (like Mugerwa) are available to educate our youth.
Our History
We have started out small, but hope to grow. We have plans to build more schools as a means of reaching out to even more children and educating them. Although we have had limited international volunteer interaction, we are interested in working with other individuals and organizations to develop our own as well as devise a plan for a sustainable income.
